The Audi A5 is a series of compact executive coupe cars produced by the German machine manufacturer Audi since June 2007. The A5 range additionally comprises the coupe, cabriolet, and "Sportback" (a five-door liftback with a fastback roofline) version of the Audi A4 saloon and manor models.

When presented at the March 2007 Geneva Motor Show, the A5 marked Audi's return to the compact executive coupé market since the (B3/B4) Audi eighty based coupé model ended production in 1996. On May x, 2006, Audi confirmed that the A5 would become into production. The B6/B7 A4 spawned a convertible variant but not a coupé. In 2009, Audi announced the seven speed S-Tronic transmission selection for A5 with two.0 TFSI quattro (155 kW) for the United kingdom market,[34] which replaced the six speed Tiptronic in the United Kingdom and Deutschland.

Beginning with the 2011 model year, the A5 2.0 TFSI Quattro coupé and cabriolet includes 8 speed Tiptronic transmission selection, replacing the half dozen-speed Tiptronic in the U.S. and Canada markets.[35]

Facelift (2011–2016) [edit]

The facelift vehicles, covering A5 Coupé, Convertible, Sportback, S, and RS models, include updated front and rear lights, too equally a new front bumper design. The new front end includes pronounced air inlets, revamped grilles, and flat fog lights. The vehicle is 10 millimetres (0.39 in) longer overall than the predecessor.

Changes to the RS5 Coupé for 2012 included upgraded dampers and springs on the suspension front, new electric power steering replacing engine-driven hydraulic power steering, exclusive retractable rear spoiler, ruby cam covers, and a carbon fiber intake manifold, optional piano black trim, xx-inch graphite-colored wheels, a sport exhaust organisation with black finishers.

RS5 Coupé was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show,[46] followed by the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The RS5 Coupé went on sale in the U.s.a. as the 2013 RS 5 Coupé.[45]

The RS5 Coupé went on auction in India, priced at Rs 96.81 lakh.[47] [48]

RS5 Cabriolet (2013–2015) [edit]

The RS5 Cabriolet was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Product of the RS5 concluded permanently in June 2015. A race version of the S5, the RS5 has a valved exhaust whose note can be tuned to adjust driving weather condition and personal preference. The RS5 has a heavy[49] and naturally aspirated 4.2 V8 that produces 450 hp (336 kW).[l]

Deliveries of the RS5 Cabriolet began in early 2013,[51] [52] and went on auction in the United states of america in April 2013.[53]

Equally part of the RS5 Cabriolet launch, Audi Land of Quattro Alpen Tour 2013 featured an RS5 Cabriolet starting on September 23, traveling across twelve driving stages in half-dozen countries (Klagenfurt – the upper-case letter of Carinthia, Republic of austria, Monaco).

A5 DTM (2012–) [edit]

Codenamed R17, the Audi A5 DTM is a race motorcar designed for the DTM beginning in yr 2012, replacing the Audi A4 DTM.[54] It includes a V8 engine rated at 340 kW (462 PS; 456 hp) with a new 6-speed sequential semi-automatic transmission, pneumatically-operated interruption using paddle-shifters on the steering wheel, engine electronics (Bosch MS five.one) and the central display from Audi R8 LMS, larger and wider tires from Hankook, 120-litre (26 imp gal; 32 US gal) safety fuel tank within a carbon fiber cell, and a larger rear wing. The paradigm was built by Audi Sport in Ingolstadt.

The vehicle was unveiled at the 2011 International Motor Evidence (IAA) in Frankfurt.[55] The homologation of the A5 DTM was scheduled for 1 March 2012.

Equally part of the 2012 A5 launch in the United Kingdom, BBH London, Park Pictures, The Whitehouse and The Manufactory produced a goggle box advertizing titled 'The Swan' (directed by Joachim Back), inspired by Hans Christian Andersen'due south tale of 'The Ugly Duckling'.

The commercial featured black and white shots of the rebodied 1920 Audi concept car designed by Audi engineer Paul Jaray, trawling the streets of a sleepy Bavarian hamlet, the streamlined model gets shunned past disapproving locals non taking besides well to the new aerodynamic blueprint. Available in Coupé and Cabriolet bodies, it is a version of A5 with four.two FSI engine rated at 450 PS (331 kW; 444 hp) and 500 N⋅m (369 ft⋅lbf), seven-speed S-Tronic transmission, quattro permanent all-cycle drive arrangement with crown-gear center differential and torque vectoring (optional quattro with sport differential rear axle), xx mm (0.79 in) lower body, electromechanical power steering, sectional 19-inch forged alloy wheels, optional carbon fiber-ceramic brake discs, Audi drive select dynamics arrangement, optional RS sport intermission with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC).[61]

Litigation [edit]

Audi had problems with the oil consumption in the engines of the models between the years 2009 to 2011.[62] More than 200 machine owners in Switzerland were affected as well.[63] In Switzerland, cars with less than 100,000 kilometres (62,000 mi) and below five years old tin can have the hardware replaced and paid for by Audi. If the machine is between 100,000 and 200,000 kilometres (62,000 and 124,000 mi) and below five years, Audi fully pays the hardware but only half of the piece of work.

The all-new A5 and S5 Coupé, based on the ninth generation of the Volkswagen Grouping MLB Platform, were unveiled in June 2016. Two petrol and two diesel fuel engines are offered for the A5. They are 2.0 litre TFSI with either 140 kW (190 PS; 188 hp) or 185 kW (252 PS; 248 hp), and the diesel motors are two.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI, between 140 kW (190 PS; 188 hp) and 210 kW (286 PS; 282 hp). The RS 5 accelerates from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). Information technology also comes with a honeycomb grille, wider fenders, and aggressively-styled front bumper with bigger openings than the A5 and S5. [65]

Further developments include a new chassis featuring a five-link forepart and rear break coupled to Audi Sport's Dynamic Ride Command system offer variable damping control. Other options included with a carbon-fiber engine cover and ceramic front end brakes.

The RS five Sportback was unveiled at the 2018 New York Motorcar Show.

The RS 5 facelift was unveiled on December 10, 2019.

Audi of America Product Planner, Anthony Garbis, has been credited[66] for designing a limited run of 100 "Panther Edition" RS5s (75 Sportback and 25 Coupe) in late 2019. The Panther edition package retailed for $13,800 and included several exclusive options, most notably: Panther Black crystal result paint, an Alcantara flat-bottom steering wheel, 20" 5-twin-spoke edge blueprint wheels and Crescendo Red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and seat belts.
